Prediggo Recommender System
Prediggo is a recommender system developped at the AI lab of EPFL. The core technology, Ontology Filtering was developped by Dr Vincent Schickel during his Phd at EPFL and under the supervision of prof. Boi Faltings.
Current recommender systems use one, or a combination of the following techniques: Collaborative Filtering or Content-Based Filtering.
Prediggo is different. It uses a novel and patented technology called Ontology Filtering.
This technology has many advantages over existing approaches. For exemple, prediggo:
- is up to 68% more accurate than Collaborative Filtering, while being up to 10 times faster.
- requires absolutely no human intervention or training. This means than it can be deployed in minutes.
- is user friendly, which allows the user to interact and understand the recommendations
Ontology Filtering was born at the Artificial Intelligence laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology In Lausanne (EPFL). It is the result of more than 3 years state of the art research in Artificial Intelligence, and over 10 years expertise in the domain of human-computer interaction from the HCI lab. The AI lab and the HCI group are both recognized worldwide for their advanced research, and are proudly organizing the 2008 International ACM Conference on Recommender Systems.
The technolgy is now protected by a US patent and a world wide license has been given to Prediggo SA to commercialize it. To this day, Prediggo SA is run by its founder Dr Vincent Schickel.
